The past several weeks I have have started pre-marital counseling with some young couples here at the church. We are exploring many different issues together and approaches to creating a life together. We are using several resources as we explore these issues and I wanted to pass one of them along to everyone because I think that there is a lot of profit in it for couples, families, and kids as we seek to understand how we are communicating our love for one another.
There is a book entitled The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman that we are looking through to discover how we each need to be feed emotionally. The five are:
- Acts of Service
- Words of Affirmation
- Gifts
- Quality Time
- Physical Touch
As you read through that list which ones did you say, “That is me!” OK, so here is what you need to do with that information: Tell everybody. Your friends, your family, your kids, etc. They need to know how you most feel the love that they want t express to you. Realize that the language that speaks to you may not be the language you need to speak to the ones you love. Here is a link to their online assessment test.
Which language do your kids speak? Have fun exploring these.
