This summer I have spent a lot of time hanging out with the kids at our Summer Day Camp. We are having a blast. Going to the pool, the movies, White Water, Frontier City, the OKC Downtown Library, Sonic, Chic Fil A, Museums, the Zoo, playing dodgeball and basketball…and that is just the schedule for this week. The schedule is exhausting and I have been told by the parents when they pick up their children that they really appreciate it.
One of the things that I have noticed as I have spent the summer with these kiddos is a combination of Kids Say the Dardest Things and Monkey See Monkey Do. These kids are sponges when it comes to the media that is consumed around them. They know all thw words to the most recent Top 10 songs on the charts and can tell you about most of the movies at the RedBox. Even without the radio these guys could give you word-for-word the lyrics to the latest Ke$ha tune.
Remember, your kids are sponges and will soak up not just what you pour into them but anything they come into contact with. One of the best things you can do for your kids is try to teach them how to make wise choices about what they allow in their lives. Not just a set of rules, but a process for making wise decisions.
What are you doing to help your kids learn how to make wise choices?
